Raw, free-spirited and never subtle, Juanita Tortilla celebrates colour and tactile textiles. Each Juanita Tortilla creation is an individual piece of heART. As an avid upcycler and full-time daydreamer, Juanita hand-makes a collection of quirky and whimsical accessories with personality.
Incorporating printmaking techniques (block printing and silk screen printing), Juanita features her beloved world-travelling Ragdoll Birman cat, Pickle, in the ‘Pickled Pockets’ collection that can be found in an independent ETSY shop, pickledpockets.
Showcasing her connection to nature, a hand-printed series of South Australian native bird illustrations was introduced to the Juanita Tortilla repertoire.
A weather study of daily temperatures for 2017 is craft-fully presented in monthly projects, #TemperatureProject2017, by means of fabric weavings and beaded necklaces.
Mostly self-taught, Juanita pursues her crafty practice with the ethos: reduce, re-use and re-create.
Born and raised in Singapore, Juanita has a background in Animal Biology and she been gathering life experiences for over a decade from Europe, North America, and now Australia where she calls home with her husband and two beautiful indoor cats. Juanita can be found on most social media platforms and in-person at select markets around Adelaide.
